Yeah, I saw this story. Funny, indeed. Of course, it doesn't hurt that there are 3 games here and if you buy all 3 that's still only $12 (plus the cost of food) so that might've helped sales a bit (compared to the $60 or $70 for Gears).
I personally own Big Bumpin' (haven't played it much yet) and Sneak King. Sneak King is (IMO) was of the funniest promotional cross-overs I have ever seen. It really does make me laugh (and has been providing plenty of fun time per dollar spent). Who needs multiplayer when I can surprise an unsuspecting hungry lumberjack with a fresh croissandwich?!?

Haha, now you're making me want to try it.
We got the games for reference at work, and I took home Big Bumpin' but never got to opening the package. It's still in plastic.

I got Pocketbike Racer, and it is fun! I wanted to get Big Bumpin' too, but they were out. I might get them on eBay sometime.
Pocketbike Racer is brilliant though. I always loved the Subservient Chicken stuff, so this was awesome! Pretty fun to play, especially for $4 and a burger!

You know you would think watching the king do a little jig and give some food would get old after a while...and it does. Instead of "after a while" add "instantly".
4 dollars though...no big deal.

See, for me...it's still so ridiculous that I laugh. Probably doesn't hurt that my brother is in advertising so we discuss things like these kinds of cross-promotions and how they can succeed and how they can fail. The King is just so damn scary (stalker much?) and hideous that he is indelibly etched in my mind (and the mind of many people I ask about it). And ultimately that is gaining mindshare amongst the public and that's the whole point right?
Personally, I feel like the counter-intuitive approach that BK has taken has helped them gain more traction (i.e. when McDs and Wendy's and everyone got rid of "supersize" and added salads and parfaits BK turned around and released a breakfast sandwich with 2 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, two sausage patties, cheese, and some horribly fattening bread and said, "you come to a fast food joint to eat super evil food...so let's give the public what *they* want and not what their doctors want).
Dunno if it's helped their bottom line, but it surely helps me remember them when I'm jonesin' for a burger.

I think this promotion might give some other companies ideas...
New! From Trojan! It's Sneak Condom! Where you have to play as a trojan and sneak condoms into people's bags.
Or, new from Subway! Sneak Jared! Where you have to play as Jared Fogle and steal fatty foods out of people's hands.
And don't even get me started on Patrick Deuel's Big Bumpin'.
