I've been thinking of making a site that points off ripoffs and discuses/rants about the marketplace. Now I have been thinking about making the same site and making a page for all the consoles, maybe add a forum and some other stuff and it might not be a bad idea. It might change the marketplace for the better. The only thing is how would I get people there, and would it be worth my time.

You should be bothered by them. It isn't as if it is game one in a trilogy that has an ending followed by a teaser ad. With Crackdown it is almost one step away from laughing at the consumer for purchasing an incomplete game. As much fun as I have had playing Shadowrun it has that same aura to it but less blatent. A game should be functional on its own or it is not a complete game. Send a message to the inboxs of players who have a specific game on their played list or something*, but if they choose to not purchase it do not modify their purchased content...or offer a refund with copyright laws not allowing returns in most states. *At most I would accept an ad on the loading screens or such, but nothing that impedes gameplay from the original content such as the race alert you described. That just isn't nice.
The nearby race thing was in the game prior to the add-on, so I don't think it is such an issue in this case. It just notifies you that there is a race nearby (new and old races). It's not something new, or tacked on. It's just there, but for people new to the game (ie Lunar) it might seem frustrating.

"Two: "There's a Rooftop Race nearby agent!"...and then I bust my butt getting up on top of some huge building only to be greeting be "You must download content to play this race" or whatever it says."
Did it always say that you ahd to download content? I understand notification of a race is not the ad specifically, but from what I the title update added markers of things you are unable to access unless you purchase the premium DLC. That is significantly different. They modified the game you purchased to advertise in an inappropriate way.
Crackdown seems really fun from what I have played (primarily the demo) but I am betting the price will plummet for used copies after the Halo 3 beta (the beta has artificially inflated the price I would imagine). I'll most likely pick it up then.

Yeah, there are markers there that did not exist prior, doesn't really bother though. I haven't really thought about it though. I got all the rooftop races achievements, and don't even look twice when a green marker shows up. There are other new ones, but they really don't interest me, as they are primarily co-op.
The thing that does bother me is right on the main menu. There is a street races option right on the menu screen that you can click to start, pick your charachter, then right before you are taken to a loading screen, it says you must buy it.
I think we are going to see much, much more of this, as the silent majority scoops up all this stuff in a heartbeat.

LunarDuality wrote: I suppose that's one reason I'm still so high on indie titles on XBLA in general. The good ones offer just as much gameplay time and fun as a retail title for far less money. Of course, that's just the "good" ones. With retail games costing $60, and used games still being a little higher than usual (in shops, not really on eBay), it is way too much! That is why I love the whole marketplace. Free demos, free videos, and cheap games that give as much fun as others! When an arcade game is my most played game on 360, that really shows how great they are! (It is Cloning Clyde by the way ) staticwrap wrote: I haven't thought of the rooftop race thing, that guy just blurts out crap all the time. Like, "I can see my house from here"...underground. Or "Impressive ascent agent"...driving down the road. Or "Cover! Cover!" when there is nothing going on.
Yeah, I love how you can be walking down the road and he says "Good job Agent!". I guess I am just awesome at walking down the road or something.
That reminds me of something else. The music of Crackdown is actually pretty good, at least the songs I can understand. The only artist I have heard of before was TobyMac (sings Extreme Days, Get This Party Started, Yours, and Momentum on the game). Since I actually knew all of those songs and had those CDs, I kept hopping in Volk cars just to hear them, even when I didn't need to drive. Then, I found a solution! I got in the car, changed the song, then hopped out and picked up the car. It was like I was holding a boombox or something! Hardcore people listen to their music by carrying cars!

Carrying cars around? I bet those are some portable sounds.

@ AC91 - LOL @ carrying your boomcar
@ Staticwrap - yeah, I definitely wanna get some co-op in at some point now that I've essentially beaten the game.
As for the whole notification of a rooftop race thing hear is more detail:
They always tell you about nearby races (even if they aren't visible on the minimap). That is always true. I just have a problem with calling attention to one that is difficult to get to and then asks you to buy it. If they could have a different color or indicator for DLC races I would know not to spend time and effort going there. That's the main issue.

Yeah, a different color, or it to be nonexistant would be optimal. But having 4 star agility, is it really difficult to get anywhere?

No, not "difficult" per se. Just annoying when you're hanging out on street level in Shai Gen territory which (as you know) has limited access to the very high rooftops. So, it takes some time...only to be slapped across the face.

I thought MS would fight that kind of thing after the debacle with Lumines. Bummer... Do they kick everyone out of a session when a race is done?

Buh-dum-pish!
I am just excited that someone here has actually heard of him before. I have all his CDs, one of the few artists that I actually pay for!

Yeah, when things were locked out in the demo I just assumed it would be unlocked on full purchase which lead me to gloss over that it was DLC. Actually I don't remember exactly what those pages say in the demo anymore. Would someone kindly post the wording from the demo?
If it is listed on the demo it is the consumers mistake, but still a rather rude thing to do to the consumer.

I just checked the trial, and it says nothing about it being DLC. In fact, it says "Not available in Trial Version" where clicking A sends you to the page to unlock the full version, implying that you will get it when you buy. That is misleading to the point where it just seems like cheating your customers.

Never heard of him...but what do you do for the artists you don't pay for?
