I haven't played Dead Rising in a while so I tried booting it up a little bit ago. After the screen goes black for a bit I get an error message telling me to use the disc on a 360. I forgot the exact wording, but it is the same message you get if you accidently put a 360 game into a DVD player while fumbling around in the dark to swap movies after the overhead lamp burnt out...not that I have ever done that or anything.
No visible scratchs and the game is practically mint as I have only played it a handful of times since I purchased it. No other game gets the error message. Tried turning the system off for a bit before reloading Dead Rising and still get the error message.
Any simple fixes or other such ideas? or is this just the beginning of a horror story?

Try another game. If you still have problems, call MS. They did give a nice new warranty after all.

I don't think anything's wrong, although some people claim that it means your 360 is breaking - just try it again a few times. My 360 does that a lot with Guitar Hero II and Double Agent.

It only happens with Dead Rising, but I can't find anything visually wrong with the disc. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else with a 360 locally to test the disc in another system.

I know that in general some DVDs just "go bad" or are pressed improperly. Obviously, exposure to heat or light for long periods can easy do damage as well and may not leave visable marks. If the disc is just bum then you should be able to get a replacement for free but I dunno what the Capcom policy is.

Yeah, from what I am hearing from various people it sounds like it is the disc and not the system. time to start digging up the warranty replacement phone number.
