Right before Lunar snuck on and deleted 12 spam threads I was screenshotting, I, well, took a screenshot. You almost beat me Lunar, but I am just a bit quicker than you

That is the most spam I have seen here for a while. Insanity, I tells ya!

Oh yeah, I noticed too. It's pretty crappy.

That's because we all get to it quickly before you have the chance to see it

I see quite a bit of spam, but I blame time zones.

The intrepid spam hunters are pretty quick. It's quite often that I go to delete a spam message and find that it's been deleted between the time I saw it and the time I clicked the delete button. :)

I think this continuous effort hides the sheer size of the problem. But I still don't have a good solution. I have several spam filters installed, I require account creation for posting, including some customized php for checking if the creator is human, and I require an e-mail address... Note that all of the spam comes from one-time accounts.

I'm thinking upgrading to phpbb 3.0 might help, but I have no evidence of that yet.

Unfortunately, not quick enough for me. They have been really, really nasty lately.

Whenever I get on there are usually two or three that haven't been picked up, but never that bad.

I have a question...when modding, do you have to look at said post to delete it? Must suck sometimes.

@ Staticwrap

Yeah, you do have to look at it to delete it. In fact my eyes are burning from all the porn I just saw.

The biggest issue these days is the images. Now that these porn spammers are loading us up with pictures of everything you can imagine (well maybe not everything you can imagine, you sickos!) it's become a big more troubling.

I would LOVE to be able to delete users, block IPs, and stuff but I have little knowledge about playing admin against a sea of spam.

Hmm, images... yeahhhh, that's probably all I will make a comment on there.

And actually, you don't absolutely have to go into the thread to delete it. Just go in the subforum it is located in, which is usually off-topic, and look on the very bottom right for the moderation link (it says "You can moderate this forum). You can do a mass deletion there by clicking a check box next to the threads you want deleted and click "delete" on the bottom.

Still, some threads do look like they could be legit but are clever picture threads in disguise, so you can't avoid 'em all.

Also, being an administrator for full power over banning accounts and IP's won't help in the least bit. Every post will be a new IP and accounts almost always post just once. Sometimes twice, but I have never seen it go further. I would be able to do that myself as it isn't difficult at all to perform, but again, not much help. You could ban a range of IP's, but then there is a chance, although a small one at that, of a normal member being blocked. And that wouldn't be very good at all.

Well, it would be useful in a case like that Wilson bugs bunny guy or whatever his name was. That was... a very strange spammer to say the least. It was a fun change of pace, though :D

I love you Game Master. You have just tripled my productivity and reduced the effort I have to take by about 100%.

Ugh. Every time I go into a topic with a porn title I immediately reach for the stop button. There is a reason for slow internet connections!

Hah, have you been going into every thread and pressing the X button on the post to delete it? Wow, I really am sorry that I didn't mention the mass moderation earlier. You must have taken a lot of time to delete all of those threads over the span of your moderation status.
