Post subject: Chapt. 12, garage 1 glitching Posted: Mon May 22, 2006 3:17 pm |

I've been re-running Chapt. 12 (Tree Hugger Haven), and when I build a garage 1, the drones head out straight away from the garage into deep space. They refuse to come when called, or fix anything no matter how badly its on fire. Doesn't seem to happen with the Garage 2. It happens whether or not I'm using the "power down" repair glitch or not.

That sounds crazy. I think I might have a Chapter 12 save, so I'll test this out. If replicated, I guess we'll add it to the "known issues" list. How bizarre. (o_O)

Whoah, that's bizarre. I wish I could see a screenshot to see your expansion layout...
Here's a possibility: The tree station is weirdly shaped, and sometimes building two expansions in certain ports on the tree end up with their extremities fairly close together, and the poor little repair droids can't get to their special spot to repair.
If this is the case, they're probably heading toward the most damaged expansion. You could try selling and rebuilding your most damaged expansion somewhere else and see if this fixes the problem. Not an ideal solution, of course... You could try picking a different damaged expansion and hitting the "Call Repair Droids" button...
Reasons why this seems like an incorrect diagnosis:
1. We looked pretty hard for this kind of thing, since we knew it was possible, and we didn't run across in for several months before we shipped.
2. This would in theory apply to any type of droid, so the fact that it only happens on one repair expansion type seems wrong...
3. When you send off two repair droids, they split up - one should go for the most damaged expansion and the other for the next most, at least under normal circumstances. The fact that they BOTH run off into outer space is pretty freaky.

its not that the drones can't get to the magic "fix it" spot -- the drones exit the garage entrance heading straight away from the garage, and they do not turn. They go straight away from the station out into deep space, and never return. If I drop the # of drones to 0, then spike it back up, they come back out of the garage, but they do the same autopilot-away-into-space routine. Mabye I'm not paying my repair drones enough? Could be some sort of robot strike.
Don't know if its related, but I've also recently gotten some incomplete graphics on expansions. Once, the glass dome over the Herb Garden was streaked with vertical stripes. Another time, the dome of the observatory was rainbow-streaked with colors, instead of being solid grey/black. Mabye I should just delete-redownload OKX.

Make sure you delete all of the trailers/demos on your xbox.
Then when you turn the game on the game before it comes up Hold the A button down. (so right after you push the button to go to OPX) after the title screen let go (so when iot says push a to continue) of A. See if that fixes it.

clean the cache? Not a bad idea. I'll try it tonite. I tried the delete/redownload idea, and its still !$^@&$ happening. I'm convinced I've got a good gameplan for the level, but waiting for the
$700 for Garage 2 is killing it.

Extremely odd. That extra stuff (streaky textures) makes me wonder about some kind of corruption... Any problems in any other games?
I've seen the head-straight-away-from-the-station thing many many times, but only during early development. It means the ship in question (in this case a droid) can't get to its target, and it's going away from the station while it waits for the space to clear up. This should never show up in the game - such problems should all have been cleaned up way before we released the game. I've never seen that happen in the final game. It's possible, of course, that it's just a bug that you've found, but various things make me fairly sure it's not a simple occurence of this old problem, including the fact that building a different kind of garage fixes the problem, which would definitely NOT happen if it were all about the droid's target.
Still mystified...
